KF-X(Boramae) Project Technology Development

The technology development of the KF-X (Korean Fighter Experimental) Boramae project is an international joint development project undertaken under the lead of the Agency for Defense Development on the basis of sharing development costs with foreign countries. Core technology development was carried out for this project, including the ROC (Required Operational Capability) analysis required for initial system development, performance prediction, and low probability of intercept technology to establish system requirements, develop system configurations, identify the possibility of developing core technology, etc.
As a result of technology development, a technology readiness level (TRL) was attained for configuration design, for component (such as twin-engine) layout design, and for the initiation of system development that would meet the requirements of the military. The possibility of economic feasibility of this project was confirmed through cost analysis, analysis of technology spillover effect, and marketability analysis, which laid the foundation for military power increase and achievement of the development of the aviation industry.
Meanwhile, KF-X (Boramae) engineering and manufacturing development is in progress, led by the industry, and the active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar which is one of core components of modern fighter is undergoing development by the Agency for Defense Development.
